Fall is a time to harvest the last bounty of summer and also to prepare for the coming winter ahead. The iced drinks and salads which help us keep cool in the heat give way to warm drinks and soups. Chai has a blend of warming spices that are especially great this time of year, but this blend is also tasty when made iced.
So, skip the big chain chai and make your own blend using my recipe or customize it to make it your own!
Ingredients:
1 1/2 c black or green tea leaves
9 Tbsp cinnamon chips
2 Tbsp cardamom pods
2 Tbsp whole allspice
2 tsp black peppercorn
4 tsp whole cloves
2 Tbsp dried ginger root
2 Tbsp dried orange peel
6 Star Anise pods
1. Combine all spices in a bowl and grind into a powder using a spice grinder or coffee grinder
2. Stir ground spice blend in with tea leaves and mix well
3. Transfer into an air tight container to store (this recipe will fill a large Ball jar)
4. To make a cup of tea, use 1 teaspoon of Chai Mix in a cup of hot water and sweeten with honey and your favorite milk.
